Doctor Who...ville?

As I started to fall asleep the other night, a thought crept into my head.

Every person in Whoville's last name is "Who", right?

And, presumably a town of that size would need atleast one person trained in medicine to take care of health issues.

So by that logic, does that mean that they have their very own "Doctor Who"?

Let that wrinkle your brain!

Witches & their Broomsticks...

So, there I was talking to my British friend Anna today as she was sweeping out her office. She stops sweeping for a minute and asks me if I knew why witches had brooms. Several things came to mind, but as I wasn't sure if this was a joke or not I just shook my head no.

After a minute, Anna says that this isn't a joke, and that she heard this from her supervisor. So she starts tell me that the reason witches have brooms is because they used to apply ointments and what not to the knobby end, and then stick 'em up their bum's. She pauses. I just look at her waiting for her to laugh, until I realize that she's serious.

Then, I laughed....alot.

I started wondering though why witches did have brooms. Surprisingly, Anna wasn't completely crazy. Here are the best theories I could find...

1. Witches disguised their wands as broomsticks to avoid suspicion.

This seems feasable.

2. Witches would use broomsticks to temporarily trap the spirits of people.

Weird, but fits with the classic Medievil sterotype of evil witches.

3. "Some people speculate that in the Middle Ages women publicly accused of being witches (or at least women with knowledge of herbology did "ride" brooms. They applied a layer of paste made out of trance inducing plants (such as belladonna) to the broomstick and "rode" it, as a way of applying the hallucinogenic herb to the thin skin of the labia where it might be quickly absorbed into the blood stream. However, due to the witchhunts and the general beliefs of the time, little to no reliable information exists to corroborate this belief."

Huh. Who would have thought?

Finally something to Blog about!

Well, as you all know, I am not the best at keeping this up to date. There hasn't been too much pressure up till now though anyways since Patty always does such a great job updating hers! But, since now we will be separated for a while, I figured this is a good chance to try and do a weekly thing where I can let everyone know what I've been up to and post some good pictures of the places that I've been!

To start off, I'm just going to put up some of the pictures that I've taken since leaving Misawa. These are not going to be as good as Patty's unfortunately, but I couldn't hope to approach her level of talent or dedication to her art, so I won't overly try! I also started a Picasa album where I am going to put all of my pictures. Please feel free to check out the page as I will probably not put all of my pictures on the blog!

You can find the link to my Picasa Photo album here!

Jet lag

This year I have been doing quite a bit of traveling. I have accrued over 100,000 miles traveling for business alone! Needless to say, I'm quite sick of traveling. More to the point, I'm sick of jet lag. It's been hitting me pretty hard the last couple of trips, and this one might be the worse yet. So far, I've really only been able to sleep about 3 hours a night. Not a huge fan of that. If it doesn't change soon (which I really hope it does) I guess I will have to try and figure out something to help me sleep more at night. I really dislike sleeping pills or other drugs intended to make you sleep, but I'm sure I can find some sort of natural remedy. Like I said though, with any luck, I'll snap out of it in a few days and then I can start sleeping a whole night again! Here's to hoping!

Busy Busy

Well, it has been quite a while since I have written anything, but I have a good excuse. I've been working quite hard at knocking out as many classes as I can for my bachelors! My degree audit has finally been completed, and I only need about 10 more classes to finish my degree. Needless to say I am pretty excited. With that being said, I'm taking a few classes and also taking CLEPs to get some of those lower level credits out of the way. So, I have literally been consumed by school. It is quite exhausting but it will defnitely be worth it in the end. Given that I think I am the only one that looks at my blog, I don't feel any great need to constantly update this, but I will do my best to get on top of it better!

Feeling Supremely Unmotivated

I can't remember the last time that I felt so incredibly unmotivated. I have some homework that I need to do, but I just can't muster up the gumption to get it done. Infact, I don't want to do anything except sit on the couch, watch something, and then go to sleep. I tried motivating myself earlier by getting up, taking a shower and going out and getting something tasty to eat. I figured that would kind of jump start me. I was wrong. I just don't feel like doing anything! I'm not sad or anything, just kind of unmotivated to move around. I think I'm going to go to sleep early tonight and get a good night sleep. Hopefully that will set everything straight and I will be good to go!
Oh...I did find some motivation to play some of this game called "Heavy Rain" on the PS3. It is frakin amazing! If you haven't checked it out yet, I definitely suggest you do. It is like a choose your own adventure movie. Really keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you feel like you are really incontrol of the story.

Sigh....

So, against my better judgement I just tried to watch the first episode of the TV series "The Legend of the Seeker". I had to turn it off. It was so bad on almost every front I can think of casting, acting, writing, adaptation of the original stories...it was just a disaster. For those of you who don't know, this utter travesty of a show is supposedly based off of "The Sword of Truth" series written by Terry Goodkind. Now, the first 3 or 4 books of this series are great. Seriously good fantasy fiction. The first book, Wizards First Rule is definitely on my top 10 books list. The only thing that this show has in common with the books is pretty much the names of the characters. Just about EVERYTHING else is different, and sucks completely. I can't even impress upon you how sad I was. Even if you had never read the books before, the series still sucked. I definitely do NOT recommend this show to anyone. If it wasn't bad enough that there was 1 whole season of this show, they decided to make a 2nd season! I am definitely not alone in my view of this show. In my search for other people to commiserate with, I ran across this review/letter to the author, Terry Goodkind. It is pretty darned funny. Arg...well, I don't know what else to say. Picard pretty much sums it up for me.
